DETROIT - Wayne State University defenseman Jenaya Townsend (Sherwood Park, Alta./Sherwood Park Kings) was selected as the College Hockey America Rookie of the Week, the league office announced Monday afternoon.

Townsend contributed at both ends of the rink for the Warriors in last weekend's series against Syracuse. She scored her first collegiate in Saturday’s contest, which put WSU ahead 1-0. Defensively, the Wayne State penalty killers stopped all three Syracuse power-play chances. SU entered the weekend second in the CHA and fifth nationally in power-play percentage.

This is the first Rookie award for Townsend, who is tied for second among all CHA freshman blueliners with seven points.

Wayne State is idle this weekend and will host Niagara next week, Feb. 12-13, at the City Sports Center.  Call 1-866-WSU-TIKS for ticket information.
