Men's Swimming In Fourth Place Through First Day At NCAAs

CANTON, Ohio - The Wayne State University men's swimming and diving team is in fourth place after the first day of the 2010 NCAA Championships at C.T. Branin Natatorium.

The Warriors accumulated 66 points on Wednesday night, 13 behind defending champion Drury (79). Incarnate Word is in second (73) followed by Ouachita Baptist (68).

Oskar Nordstrand (Stockholm, Sweden) swam in the final heat of the 1000 freestyle and posted an 11th-place time of 9:23.89.

Joaquin Abascal Gallegos (Madrid, Spain) finished in second place (1:48.24) in the 200 individual medley, just .06 seconds behind Drury's Jun Han Jim.

Cauli Bedran (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil) placed fourth in the 50 freestyle (20.27) and led off the fifth-place 200 medley relay (1:30.81) with Abascal Gallegos, Nathan Hesche (Jackson, Mich.) and Justin Shields (Chesterfield, Mich./Anchor Bay).

Thursday's competition will begin with the preliminary round at 10:30 a.m. Fans can follow the action with live results and video all week long courtesy of ncaa.com.
