Women's Swimming & Diving Has Successful Wednesday Prelims

Warriors win preliminary 200 medley relay

The Wayne State University women's swimming and diving team began competition at the 2010 NCAA Division II Championships with Wednesday morning's preliminary events at C.T. Branin Natatorium.

Elaina Hogle (Kentwood, Mich./East Kentwood) will swim in Wednesday's final heat of the 200 individual medley after finishing fourth 2:04.29 in the preliminary round.

Sara Franklin (Caro, Mich.) placed 10th in the 50 free (23.67), breaking the school record of 23.91 set by Ashley Corriveau (Metamora, Mich./Lapeer East) earlier this season. Corriveau placed 18th (23.88), just .07 seconds outside of the top 16 finalists, and Ana Gonzalez Pena (Gijon, Spain) came in 19th (23.91).

In the preliminary 200 medley relay, the quartet of Franklin, Courtney Roberts (Caro, Mich.), Gonzalez Pena, and Corriveau turned in a first-place time of 1:42.67.

Stephanie Ekleberry (Rochester Hills, Mich./Avondale) posted the third-best time in the morning heats of the 1000 free (10:21.01). Top seed Ashley St. Andrew (Grand Rapids, Mich./Jenison) will be among the eight swimmers competing tonight.

Wednesday's finals, which will include the women's three-meter diving competition, will begin at 6:00 p.m. Fans can follow the action with live results and video all week long courtesy of ncaa.com.
