Former Warrior Mazur Makes Professional Debut

2010 GLIAC Pitcher of the Year tosses two scoreless innings.

Former Wayne State University pitcher Justin Mazur (Macomb, Mich./De La Salle) made his professional debut Thursday night for the Burlington Royals of the Appalachian (Rookie) League.

Mazur, who was signed by the Kansas City Royals as a free agent, entered Thursday's contest against the Greeneville Astros in the top of the seventh with Burlington trailing 2-1.  He retired three of the four batters he faced in the seventh including one on strikes.  In the eighth, Mazur again retired three of the four Greeneville batters.

The 2010 GLIAC Pitcher of the Year, Mazur collected six victories in his senior campaign, tied for third-most in the GLIAC. He was the conference leader in strikeouts (73), complete games (8) and opponents' average (.258),and was also tied for second in starts (12), second in innings (85.1) and fifth in ERA (4.22).

Mazur ended his career as Wayne State's all-time leader in winning percentage (.818) with an 18-4 record.  His 18 wins put him in a tie for sixth, while his 152 strikeouts are 12th-most in program history.
