Ten Softball Players Earn Conference All-Academic Recognition

Ten members of the 2010 Wayne State University softball team earned GLIAC All-Academic team honors as announced by the league office.

Seniors Nicole Abel (Kitchener, Ont./St. Mary's), Jaci Banton (Richmond Hill, Ontario/Cardinal Carter), Casey Hanes (Richmond, Va./Douglas Freeman) and Stephanie LeClair (Kitchener, Ont./Forest Heights C.I.) earned a spot on the GLIAC All-Academic squad, and were joined by five sophomores and a redshirt freshman.

Abel and LeClair were honored for the third time, while Banton and Hanes (both transfers) were recognized for the second time after being eligible for the first time in 2009.

Making their first appearance on the GLIAC All-Academic squad were sophomores Alison Allen (Redford, Mich./Farmington Hills Mercy), Sam Cain (Taylor, Mich./Kennedy), Becca Ryan (Westland, Mich./Dearborn Divine Child), Rebecca Stanley (Waterloo, Ont./Waterloo C.I.) and Kristina Susalla (Garden City, Mich.), while redshirt freshman Brittany Omelanchuk (Brooklin, Ont./Wilson S.S.) also was named to the team.

To be eligible for GLIAC All-Academic status a student athlete must have: a cumulative G.P.A. of 3.0 or greater (on a 4.0 scale); must be a starter or key reserve; and must not be a freshman or first-year transfer.
