DETROIT - The Wayne State University women's hockey team (7-13-0, 1-7-0 CHA) saw its losing streak reach six games following Saturday afternoon's
2-1 setback to Niagara University (6-12-4, 3-2-1 CHA) at the City Sports Center.
All of the scoring was confined to the first period.
Micheline Frappier (Val Caron, Ont./Sudbury Lady Wolves) scored the lone Warrior goal at 11:39, a tally sandwiched between a pair of Purple Eagle goals.
The Niagara forward line of Daniela Dal Colle, Kristen Richards and Caitlin Jenkins produced both Niagara goals. Dal Colle scored the first goal of the game at 7:46, while Jenkins' game-winner came at 15:27. Richards assisted on both.
Wayne State out-shot Niagara for the second day in a row but was swept at home for the second time this season. Goaltenders Jenni Bauer and
Delayne Brian (Winnipeg, Man./Notre Dame Hounds) finished with 25 and 20 saves, respectively.
The Warriors' scoring play began when an outlet pass from
Adrianna Pfeffer (Farmington Hills, Mich./Belle Tire), playing in her 100th career game, was corralled by
Veronique Laramee-Paquette (Mont-Tremblant, Que./Les Cheminots) on the left wing. Laramee-Paquette crossed the puck in to Frappier crashing the net for her second goal of the season.
Shots over the final two periods were even, 14-14. The Warriors were unable to capitalize on a 5-on-3 power-play early in the final period, and could not net the equalizer with an extra attacker in the final 25 seconds of regulation.
Wayne State's six-game homestand continues against Quinnipiac next weekend (Jan. 21-22) and Syracuse the following weekend (Jan. 28-29).
