Former WSU right-hander Anthony Bass (Trenton, Mich.) was selected to participate in the Arizona Fall League's Rising Stars Game on Saturday at Surprise Stadium, the league announced on its
Twitter feed Tuesday afternoon.
Bass, who made his major league debut with the San Diego Padres this past season, will join the AFL West roster as one of 50 prospects chosen to play in the annual exhibition game showcasing some of baseball's most promising young stars.
The former Warrior has pitched in four games for the AFL's
Peoria Javelinas, posting a 1-0 record with a 3.94 ERA and a league-high 19 strikeouts in 16 innings. He is scheduled to make his fourth start for the Javelinas tonight against Scottsdale.
A 2008 fifth-round draft pick of the Padres, Bass was called up to the major leagues in June and made
27 appearances including three starts. He went 2-0 with a 1.68 ERA, 24 strikeouts, a .236 batting average against and a 1.28 WHIP.
Saturday's game will begin at 8:00 p.m. ET and will be broadcast live on MLB.com and MLB Network.
