DETROIT - Sophomore forward
Julie Ingratta (Markham, Ont./North American Hockey Academy) scored two goals in the final 7:21 of regulation, including an extra-attacker goal with 38 seconds left in the third period, as the Wayne State women's hockey team went to a
4-4 overtime tie with Robert Morris on Friday night at the City Sports Center.
The Warriors (8-17-2, 1-10-2 CHA) erased a pair of one-goal deficits before the Colonials (4-19-5, 1-8-3 CHA) scored two power-play goals in the second period to take a 4-2 lead.
As WSU outshot RMU, 13-6, in the third, Ingratta came out of a scrum in front of the Colonial net with her 10th goal of the season at 12:39, reducing Wayne State's deficit to one.
In the final minute, with
Delayne Brian (Winnipeg, Man./Notre Dame Hounds) pulled for an extra attacker,
Jill Szandzik (Warren, Mich./Little Caesars) and Ingratta worked the puck back and forth until Ingratta found an opening for a shot from the right wing to beat Meeri Raisanen and make it a 4-4 game.
Wayne State had five shots in the overtime period to RMU's three, and had to kill a 5-on-3 Colonial power-play.
In total, the teams combined for 19 penalties in the game. The Colonials, who also had a short-handed goal, went 3-for-6 on power plays, while the Warriors finished 2-for-7.
Cobina Delaney opened the scoring at 7:11 in the first period, putting home a one-timer off a pass from behind the net by Maria Stoa.
Veronique Laramee-Paquette (Mont-Tremblant, Que./Les Cheminots) answered at 9:48 with her fifth of the year, tipping in a shot from the blue line by
Ciara Lee (Toronto, Ont./Etobicoke Jr. Dolphins).
Gina Buquet (Lafayette, La./Ohio Flames) also came away with an assist.
During a WSU power play, a turnover in the offensive zone allowed RMU to send the puck all the way around the boards to Kathryn Stack on the far side. Stack knocked the puck up into the neutral zone and beat two WSU defensemen to it before firing a shot from the right wing past Brian at 12:57.
Three minutes into the second period,
Micheline Frappier (Val Caron, Ont./Sudbury Lady Wolves) redirected a shot from
Jenaya Townsend (Sherwood Park, Alta./Sherwood Park Kings) for her career-best fifth goal of the year, tying the score at 2-2.
A 5-on-4 power-play tally from Thea Inbrogno at 6:05 and a 4-on-3 goal by Sara O'Malley at 14:06 put the Colonials ahead 4-2.
Wayne State finished with a season-high 41 shots on goal. Raisanen and Brian totaled 37 and 27 saves, respectively.
The Warriors and Colonials will meet Saturday at 2:00 in WSU's final home game of the season.
