Indianapolis, Ind. – Men's tennis took part in some out of season action this weekend down in Indianapolis at the Division II ITA Midwest Regionals. The three day event resulted in limited success but provided some building blocks for the upcoming spring season.
Thomas Ducret (Paris, France) was seeded ninth overall in the Flight A bracket and picked up a pair of wins 6-3, 6-2 and 6-3, 6-3 before falling in a long third set in the round of 16. Ducret put up quite a fight before dropping the match at the end 2-6, 6-1, 8-10.
The Flight B bracket provided the Warriors with a better showing as Mohamed Fazyl (University of Marne la Vallee) made it to the final four players in a pool of 32. Fazyl never has a chance to play his semifinal match as time is usually focused on the Flight A matches to ensure those all are completed. Fazyl had won three matches to that point and seemed to be getting stronger as the tournament went on.
Oscar Gamarra (Guayaquil, Ecuador / Unidad Educativa Javier) and
Trey Keating (Troy, Michigan/ Troy High School) also picked up Flight B wins for Wayne State down in Indy. Doubles play wasn't nearly as kind to the Warriors as they failed to win a doubles match in either the Flight A or B brackets.
Men's tennis will head to Toledo on Friday for a two-day event with the Rockets before hosting the University of Detroit Mercy on the 13th to close out fall play.
