Women's Tennis Falls In GLIAC Semis

Midland, MIch. - After winning 14 straight matches and a second place finish in the GLIAC the Wayne State women's tennis team (14-2, 13-2 GLIAC) had high hopes of taking the conference tournament title while avenging their lone loss of the season to Northwood. Those hopes were dashed Saturday afternoon however as the Warriors suffered a 5-3 defeat at the hands of Grand Valley.

Things were very tight all day and after Jessica Kruczek (Detroit, Mich. / Lakeview) battled back from being down 5-0 in the second set of the #5 singles flight before the Lakers found a way to close out with a 7-5 win in the deciding set. At the same time Julia Kamenko (Thornhill, Ont. / Vaughan S.S.) was narrowing in on a singles victory at #2 singles that would have given the Warriors a vital fourth point with Kruczek having an opportunity to close things out at #5.

In the end however Kruczek fell short and the Warriors will now be playing for third place against Ferris State Sunday at 8:00 AM at the Midland Tennis Center.
