DETROIT -- The Wayne State University baseball program added three high school prospects to its 2013-14 recruiting class, released today by head coach
Ryan Kelley.
The Warrior baseball staff has received national letters of intent from outfielder
Cole Clifton (Sterling Heights, Mich./Warren De La Salle), left-handed pitcher/first baseman
JT Conti (Trenton, Mich.) and pitcher/infielder
Tyler Tompson (Farmington, Mich.). All three will enter WSU in the fall of 2013.
“We are excited to have these three student-athletes join Wayne State University," stated Kelley. "Each of them will fit into our philosophy as we push for academic and athletic success. Our coaching and support staff worked diligently during this portion of the recruiting process and we look forward to witnessing these young men finish their senior campaigns strong. All three are products of respectable high school and summer programs that will help compliment their transition to the NCAA level.”
Clifton, a 6-1, 205-pound outfielder, will be a three-year varsity baseball letterwinner for the Pilots. He batted .380 as a junior for the state runner-ups and coach Matt Cook. Clifton had 12 doubles, four home runs and 40 RBI in 2012 to earn Second Team All-State as well as First Team All-Macomb County accolades. He is a member of the academic honor roll along with the National Honor Society and is serving as a baseball team captain this spring. Clifton played summer ball for coach Buster Sunde, and plans to major in business with a minor in economics.

He batted .402 as a junior in 2012 for coach Todd Szalka and was selected All-District, All-Area, All-League as well as All-State last season. Conti has hit two career walk-off home runs (vs. Allen Park and Cabrini). He played summer league ball for coach John Salter and hit .497 during the summer of 2012. Conti plans to major in pre-med.
Tompson, a 5-11, 185-pound pitcher/infielder, will be a four-year letterwinner for the Falcons and coach Peter Finn. He earned Honorable Mention All-District accolades and has also been selected as FHS Cy Young Award winner. Tompson was named an Oakland Activities Association Scholar Athlete.
