DETROIT -- Wayne State University head women's tennis coach Sheila Snyder has announced the signing of two high school seniors to National Letters of Intent in Lauren Hughes (Detroit, Mich./Southfield) and Andreea Mitrache (Sterling Heights, Mich./Warren Cousino).

Hughes will graduate in 2013 from Southfield High School.  She attended University High School Academy and Southfield High for two years each.  Hughes earned four varsity letters for the Blue Jays.   She was named team MVP and also earned All-Oakland Activities Association Blue Division honors for coach Ernie Taber.  Hughes was a regional finalist as a freshman.  The daughter of Ingrid Hughes and Reginald Hughes, Lauren's career ambition is to be pharmacist.

Mitrache will graduate this spring from Warren Cousino High School, where she was an academic honor roll recipient.  Mitrache was a segment semifinalist at the USTA Regional Tournament and was the champion of the Schoolcraft College Summer Open.  She was a championship quarterfinalist at the USTA/Midwest Section Open and is ranked seventh in Michigan.  She is the daughter of Marin and Gabriela Mitrache.

Snyder is in her 24th year as head coach having led WSU to a 238-148 match record and six NCAA tournament appearances in the last eight years along with back-to-back GLIAC regular-season runner-up finishes in 2011 and 2012.
