Wayne State University men's basketball head coach
David Greer has announced the addition of three players for the 2012-13 Warrior basketball season. Freshmen Mike Lewis (Ann Arbor, Mich./Huron) and Robert Andrews (Detroit, Mich./Chandler Park) will be joined by
Chene Phillips (Detroit, Mich./Renaissance), who played the last two years at Division I Liberty University.
Lewis is a 6-5 forward from Ann Arbor Huron. He helped the River Rats to four straight district championships, and a state finals berth in 2010, where he recorded 15 points and five rebounds in 21 minutes. As a senior, Lewis averaged 17.7 points and 11 rebounds per game for coach Waleed Samaha to earn
Associated Press Class A Honorable Mention All-State accolades. He made 45 triples as a senior, and scored 29 points in a 58-48 win over Skyline in January 2012. The following month he had a double-double with 34 points and 13 rebounds in a victory over Melvindale ABT. A 2012 Washtenaw County Dream Team selection, Lewis tallied 424 points in leading the River Rats to a 17-7 mark. He also competes in both the discus and shot put for Huron's Track and Field squad.
Andrews is a 6-3 guard from Chandler Park Academy. The Eagles went 18-2 his junior season, and 18-6 this past season for coach Derrick Walton, Sr. Andrews averaged 13.7 points per game as a senior along with 6.7 rebounds per contest, and scored in double figures 17 times. He tallied a career-high 35 points in a 107-67 win over Michigan Collegiate on Feb. 3, which included seven triples. An excellent free throw shooter, Andrews made 26 of 27 attempts as a senior, while also recording 46 steals. He helped CPA to two playoff victories in 2011. He was named to the Bankhoops.com Class C Second Team All-State sophomore squad for 2010. A multi-sport athlete, Andrews competed in the CSC Track and Field championship in May placing fourth in the 400m (54.47), second in the high jump (6'0"), and fourth in the long jump (18'1").
Phillips played in 26 games for the Liberty Flames a year ago, averaging 1.5 points and 1.6 rebounds per contest in 10.6 minutes per game. In his rookie campaign at Liberty, Phillips averaged 1.9 points and 1.2 rebounds per match while earning Big South Presidential Honor Roll accolades. As a senior at Renaissance, Phillips guided the Phoenix to a 16-7 record, while averaging 23.1 points, 4.5 assists and four steals per game to earn
Detroit Free Press First Team All-PSL honors. He was also named to the Bankhoops.com Class A All-State squad as well as the
Detroit News All-Area Third Team as a senior. His junior year in high school, he tallied 12 points and 4.5 assists per contest. Phillips scored 16 points in the 2010 Michigan High School Boys All-Star Basketball Game.
