ALLENDALE, Mich. -- The Wayne State University volleyball team (8-10, 5-5) traveled to #20 Grand Valley (15-3, 9-1) on Friday night for its first of two road matches against nationally ranked programs. GVSU took the first three sets for the sweep and hand the Warriors their third straight loss.
The Lakers took an marathon first set 31-29, set two 25-20 and cruised for a set three victory 25-16.

Heather Weiss (Fort Gratiot, Mich. / Port Huron) kill extended the Warriors lead to 20-16. GVSU tied the set at 21-21 and the two teams would alternate points for the next seven points. The Lakers finally took the set 31-29 on a WSU attack error.
GVSU led 6-5 to open the second set after a kill from
Mikayla Shell (Croswell, Mich. / Croswell-Lexington). The Lakers stretched their lead to 14-12 and would end the set on a 6-1 run to win 25-20.
The Lakers controlled the third and final set from the first whistle. GVSU led 19-11 to force a WSU timeout and would complete the sweep with a 25-16 set-three win.
Kristen Bulkiewicz (LaSalle, Ont. / Sandwich) finished with 14 kills to pace the Warrior attack. Bulkiewicz now has 1,162 career kills and passes Fawne Allossery (1994-97) for eighth all-time in program history. Also finishing with double-digit kills was

Macy Steenhuysen (Grand Rapids, Mich. / East Kentwood) tallied 11 digs while

The Lakers hit a healthy .340 while the Warriors hit .196.
