DETROIT -- The Wayne State University volleyball team (9-15, 6-7 GLIAC) snapped an eight-match losing streak on Saturday afternoon with a 3-1 win over Tiffin (11-11, 2-11) inside the Matthaei Center. WSU took an exciting first set 30-28 before Tiffin answered with a 25-23 set-two victory. The Warriors cruised to take set three 23-15 and set four 25-14.
The Dragons led 7-4 to begin the first set and stretched the lead to 18-12 after a WSU attack error. Tiffin led 22-18 before the Warriors could find their rhythm. A

The two programs were tied at 5-5 to begin set number two. The Dragons would take a 10-6 lead after a 4-0 run, which forced WSU to take a timeout. The Warriors would tie the set at 15-15 and eventually lead 18-16. However, WSU would struggle to close out the set and Tiffin took the set 25-23 to tie the match at 1-1.

Mikayla Shell (Croswell, Mich. / Croswell-Lexington) kill gave the Green & Gold a 7-4 lead to start set three. WSU would extend its lead to 14-7. The Warriors controlled the remainder of the set and finished on a 6-1 run to take the game 25-15.
The Warriors led 8-4 to open the fourth set after a kill from Bonewits. A Tiffin attack error would give WSU a 14-10 lead. The Warriors finished off the Dragons with a 10-1 run to take the match with a 25-14 set-four victory.
Kristen Bulkiewicz (LaSalle, Ont. / Sandwich) led both teams with 18 kills and nine digs.
Bulkiewicz now has 1,246 kills, which puts her in fourth place in program history passing Jenny Logue (1994-97) with 1,242. Next on the top ten list is Renee Bialke (1993-97) with 1,274 kills.
Madison Reeves (Indianapolis, Ind. / Avon) dished out 39 assists while
Carlee Hunt (Waterford, Mich. / Walled Lake Northern) led the defense with 21 digs. Shell was part of a solid front-line for the Warriors with two solo blocks and 10 block assists. As a team, WSU collected 16 total team blocks and hit .236 to Tiffin's .151.
The Warriors will host Findlay on Tuesday at 7 PM.
