Women's Basketball Earns NCAA Tournament Berth For Second Time In School History

Warriors going dancing for first time since 2003.

The 2012-13 Wayne State University women's basketball squad (20-8) has earned the second NCAA tournament berth in school history receiving one of six at-large bids for the Midwest Region.  GLIAC regular-season and tournament champion Ashland garnered the top seed and will host the first three rounds of the 2013 NCAA Division II Women's Basketball Tournament.

The Warriors last qualified for the NCAA tournament in 2003 where the eighth-seeded Motown team suffered a 91-83 setback at top-seeded Indianapolis.  Jodi Young led the 2003 team with 29 points and seven rebounds against the Greyhounds, while Keneisha Moss contributed 20 points, nine rebounds and two steals.  Ebony Vincent dished out 10 assists and totaled seven points.

Wayne State, the No. 6 seed, will face GLIAC rival and third-seeded Findlay in a first round match-up on Friday.  Tip-off time is still to be determined.  The Warriors and the Oilers had two meetings this season with UF winning 90-84 in overtime in Detroit on Jan. 5, and Findlay taking a 67-60 decision yesterday in a GLIAC semifinal contest also played at Ashland.
