South Canton, Ohio - The Wayne State women's tennis team (19-6) wrapped up their regular season on Friday in Ohio as they swept West Liberty State College 9-0. The spring season featured a load of tough competition for the Warriors but the women played admirably through it all considering their main season is in the fall.

WSU got going quick out of the gate as they grabbed the first and third doubles points with fast 8-2 and 8-1 victories respectively. The freshman pair of Manu Materak (Amberg, Germany / Erasmus-Gymnasium) and Alex Poissant (Laval, Que. / Vanier Prep) had a bit harder match at the second doubles flight before they finally pulled out a 9-7 win as well giving WSU a 3-0 lead.

The senior tandem of Tanya Joseph () and Jessica Kruczek () were stellar in their final match together at third doubles with an 8-1 decision.

The Warrior domination would continue into singles play as West Liberty could only muster eight total points in second through sixth singles.

Yahsha Moore (West Bloomfield, Mich. / West Bloomfield) had an early battle on her hands in the top singles flight as her first set would got to a tiebreaker. Moore would prevail in the first set 7-6 (7-2) and use that momentum to take the deciding set 6-3.

Materak was a 6-0, 6-0 winner at fifth singles, Poissant and Anne Li Briand (Repentigny, Que. / École Secondaire Félix-Leclerc) were both 6-1, 6-0 winners at third and fourth singles.

The Warriors sit in fifth place in the Midwest Regional rankings and hope their strong spring schedule will help them rise in those rankings as the spring season winds down.
