Women's Tennis Serves Up Win in Florida

ORLANDO, FL - The Wayne State women's tennis team (17-3, 13-1 GLIAC) kicked off its Southern Swing today against Southern New Hampshire (8-2, 6-0 Conf.) and took home a 8-1 victory.

The Warriors jumped out early in the cold weather with the 8:00 am start time to take the first three doubles matches and grab a quick lead. Yahsha Moore (West Bloomfield, Mich. / West Bloomfield) and Anne Li Briand (Repentigny, Que. / École Secondaire Félix-Leclerc) had the closest match as they were 9-7 winners at #1 doubles.

After teaming up with Julia Kamenko (Thornhill, Ont. / Vaughan S.S.) at second doubles for a 8-1 win freshman Alex Poissant (Laval, Que. / Vanier Prep) continued her dominant play taking home a 6-1, 6-1 win at third singles. Kamenko also won her single fight in the second spot as she was a 4-6, 6-1, 12-10 victor in a thrilling match.

Anne Li Briand was a 6-0, 6-0 winner in the fourth singles spot along with Manu Materak (Amberg, Germany / Erasmus-Gymnasium) who was a 6-2, 6-0 winner in the fifth flight. Materak teamed with Jessica Kruzcek (Detroit, Mich. / Lakeview) earlier in third doubles for an 8-3 win for the Warriors.

Up next is a trip to Saint Leo University tomorrow at 2:00 pm.
