Orlando, Fla. - The Wayne State women's tennis team rebounded from an 8-1 defeat Friday to deal the same 8-1 fate to Montana State University-Billings on Saturday morning.
Wayne State got going early as the girls dominated doubles play.
Yahsha Moore (West Bloomfield, Mich. / West Bloomfield) and
Anne Li Briand (Repentigny, Que. / École Secondaire Félix-Leclerc) were 8-0 winners in the top doubles match while
Julia Kamenko (Thornhill, Ont. / Vaughan S.S.) and
Alex Poissant (Laval, Que. / Vanier Prep) took the second flight 8-1.
Tanya Joseph (Northville, Mich. / Northville) and
Jessica Kruczek (Detroit, Mich. / Lakeview) reunited their fall bond to win 8-4 at third doubles giving WSU a fast 3-0 lead.
Kamenko had to sit the singles competition which caused the remaining Warriors to move up a spot for singles play. Poissant took over the second flight and easily won 6-2, 6-1. Briand was a 6-0, 6-0 winner at the three spot while
Manu Materak (Amberg, Germany / Erasmus-Gymnasium) filled in at fourth singles to grab a 6-0, 6-1 win for the Green and Gold.
Kruczek was a 6-2, 6-0 winner at fifth single and newcomer
Lisa Thomas suffered the lone Warrior defeat in the sixth flight 3-6, 1-6.
The ladies will next play Monday afternoon against Florida Southern College at 3:00 pm.
