Women's Tennis Season Ends With 5-2 Setback In NCAA Regionals

Springfield, Mo. -- The Wayne State University women's tennis team (19-7 overall), making its seventh NCAA tournament appearance in the last nine years, dropped a 5-2 decision to 41st-ranked Lewis University (15-4 overall) Sunday afternoon at Drury University in the opening round of the 2013 NCAA tournament.

Even though the Warriors were the fourth seeded squad, the fifth-seeded Flyers took a 2-1 lead after doubles as only the No. 3 tandem of Manu Materak (Amberg, Germany) and Jessica Kruczek (Detroit, Mich. / Lakeview) posted a win, 8-6.

In doubles play, Anne Li Briand (Repentigny, Que.) won her match in straight sets at the fourth flight, 6-0, 6-1 but WSU dropped straight set decisions at No. 1, No. 2 and No. 3 giving Lewis the 5-2 win.  The matches at third and fifth singles went unfinished.
