The Wayne State University Department of Athletics honored the 125 Warrior student-athletes who recorded at least a 3.50 grade-point average for the Fall 2012 term during its 13th annual Academic Recognition Luncheon held earlier today at Historic St. Andrew's on the WSU campus.
Six Deans' Award winners were also recognized for having the highest cumulative grade-point average among all student-athletes in that particular college:
* College of Liberal Arts and Sciences -
Samantha Kaufman, a senior on the women's cross country/track teams. Samantha recorded a perfect 4.00 term gpa her first seven semesters at WSU majoring in biological sciences with honors.
* College of Education -
Chelsie Fuller, a senior on the women's cross country/track squads. Six of Chelsie's first seven semesters at WSU she recorded at least a 3.50 term gpa while majoring in math education elementary.
* School of Business Administration -
Oscar Gamarra, a senior on the men's tennis team. Oscar recorded a perfect 4.00 term gpa in three of his first six semesters at WSU, with at least a 3.50 all six terms while majoring in finance.
* College of Fine, Performing, and Communication Arts -
Logan White, a junior on the women's softball squad. Logan has four semesters above a 3.50 term gpa while majoring in media arts and studies.
* College of Engineering -
Alycen Wiacek, a junior on the women's swimming team. Alycen has recorded a perfect 4.00 term gpa in three of her five semesters at WSU while majoring in mechanical engineering.
* Eugene Applebaum College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences -
Makelle Barski, a senior on the women's softball squad. Makelle has been on the athletic director's honor roll (term gpa 3.5+) in six of her seven semesters with two perfect 4.00 term gpas, while majoring in radiation therapy technology.
Twenty-two (22) student-athletes, from 11 different sports, recorded perfect 4.00 term gpa (indicated by *) for Fall 2012.
