Heather Weiss Selected for European Global Challenge 2014

Weiss was an All-GLIAC Honorable Mention selection in 2013.

DETROIT -- Wayne State University volleyball student-athlete Heather Weiss (Fort Gratiot, Mich. / Port Huron) has been selected for the 2014 European Global Challenge. She will play on the U22 Southeastern Team, which will travel to Prague, Maribor, Pula and Venice for competition. This is the 10th time that Bring It Promotions has put on the event. The tour begins on July 8th and runs until July 19th.

"This is an exciting opportunity for Heather to compete on an international stage," said head coach Tim Koth. "She should gain valuable experience that will help both her and Wayne State Volleyball to reach its optimal potential in the seasons to come."

"I honestly could not be more excited to play in Europe this July!" said Weiss. "I never would have imagined that I would be spending part of my summer in another country competing for a gold medal which has been my dream ever since I started playing volleyball. It is a once in a lifetime opportunity that will be a great experience on and off the court. It will be fun to play against international competition because it is something that I have never done in my career.

"It will also be a challenge adjusting to the different rules and playing style of international volleyball but I think it will only help me become more of a well-rounded volleyball player. I'm really looking forward to seeing how this experience will help me as a volleyball player and a person. It is still hard to believe that I'm going but I'm sure it will hit just before I get on the plane to fly over there."

Weiss played in all 29 matches in 2013, starting five and appearing in all 110 sets. She led the team with a .258 hitting percentage (242-582) and was second on the squad with 242 kills (2.20/set). She was also second on the team with 33 service aces. She finished with 79 digs, 66 total blocks and 10, 10-plus kills performances. She posted a career-high 17 kills against Findlay (11/5) while hitting .484 and finished the season with seven double-digit kill matches in the last eight contests. She hit .524 (13-21) at Walsh (11/9). She has 292 career kills in two seasons for the Green & Gold.
