DETROIT -- The first-ever Wayne State University baseball home run derby fundraiser sponsored by UHY Cares was on Friday, Oct. 16th at Harwell Field and graduate student
Michael MacLean (Bloomfield Hills, Mich. / Country Day / The Lawrenceville School) defeated junior
Rudy Ramirez (Brighton, Mich.) in the championship round.
The event raised $16,979, which will go towards improving the program. There were eight teams with a designated hitters and those teams solicited money for additional time at the plate.
"We were very pleased with this student-athlete driven concept," said head coach
Ryan Kelley." "Not only were the home runs impressive but the energy and fundraising effort of the team was phenomenal. I would like to thank UHY for their title sponsor support. Plus, a tremendous thank you to the Wayne State University baseball network of family, friends and alumni who contributed.
