GLIAC -- Freshman
Kayla Dulgar (Warsaw, Ohio / River View) of the Wayne State University volleyball team was named GLIAC Setter of the Week for the second week in a row on Monday.
The most-recent honor comes after Dulgar racked up a total of 84 assists (10.5 per set) while leading Wayne State to a 2-0 record in league play. Starting with the sweep of Northern Michigan on Friday night, the rookie finished with 30 assists. Then, she dished out a personal-best 54 assists on Saturday afternoon for the five-set victory against Michigan Tech. Dulgar also tacked on seven kills (only one error), six service aces, 13 digs and three total blocks.
"Kayla continues to work hard and improve every day," said head coach
Tim Koth. "She is very deserving of the awards she has been receiving and I'm happy for her."
This season, the 5-9 floor general ranks first in the league for assists per set with 9.89 and second in total assists with 791. She's finished a match with at least 30 assists in 16 of the Warriors' 22 contests and notched 40 or more in eight outings.
This Wednesday, Dulgar and her teammates will make a midweek road trip to No. 17 Ferris State (19-4 overall, 12-0 GLIAC) with the opening serve scheduled for 6 p.m. in Big Rapids.
