DETROIT -- In case you missed it on Feb. 16th, Wayne State University was awarded the inaugural I-96 Blood Battle trophy, winning by a 0.5% margin over Davenport University.
Between the WSU Warriors and the DU Panthers, a total of 57 pints of blood were collected, meaning up to 171 lives were saved by the combined efforts. That means more life, more love, and more memories for the most vulnerable patients - those suffering unexpected trauma and chronic illness every day.
Donation is the only source of lifesaving blood for patients, so
congratulations to both schools for their tremendous work and dedication to their communities. And a huge thank you to everyone who came out to donate, especially to the 22 individuals who were first-time donors!
The need for blood is urgent and constant. Every two seconds, someone in the United States needs blood. If you missed participating in the I-96 Blood Battle, please consider donating at another blood drive near you. The WSU Mort Harris Recreation Center is hosting a blood drive on April 11. Sign up for this drive or another at
redcrossblood.org. As a reminder, individuals are typically eligible to donate once every eight weeks.
The I-96 Blood Battle will be an annual event, so mark your calendars now for next year's competition!
