Men's Swimming and Diving Totals 57 Points on Final Day To Finish 12th at Nationals

Osuna places second in one-meter diving with school record score of 602.00.

INDIANAPOLIS -- The Wayne State University men's swimming and diving squad totaled 57 points on Saturday evening to finish 12th with 142.5 points.

In the men's 1650 free freshman William Debroux (Oro-Medonte, Ont.) finished his timed final by clocking in at 15:22.31 for seventh place.  Graduate student Trevor Jones (Farmington, Mich.) swam his timed final during prelims and finished 19th overall (15:39.30).

Newcomer Gabriel Arias (Bogota, Colombia) qualified for the consolation finals where he placed second to finish 10th overall in a school record time of 1:44.35 [Dima Drobnych set the previous mark of 1:44.87 in 2019, which Arias eclipsed first in the prelims (1:44.49) then again in the consolation finals].

As it was on Thursday, the men's diving competition was huge for the Warriors.  On Saturday, the one-meter diving finals took place with all three WSU divers making it to the evening finals.  Senior Julio Osuna (Tijuana, Mexico) and sophomore Max Wasiniak (Huron, Ohio) finished second (602.00) and fifth (501.95), respectively.  Osuna's mark of 602.00 obliterated the previous school record of 555.50 set by Hall of Fame diver Don Mason in 1982. 

Sophomore John Martin (Brownstown, Mich. / Woodhaven) was in the consolation finals and placed 14th with a score of 432.00.  The trio combined to earn 34 points in the team standings.

In the final event of the Championships, the men's 400 free relay, which was seeded 13th, finished in 15th place with a time of 2:57.13 to garner four points for the team standings.  The relay consisted of freshman Tomas Osorio (Medellín, Colombia), freshman Olin Charnstrom (Oxford, Mich.), graduate student Trevor Jones (Farmington, Mich.), and senior Clayton Kinnard (Dexter, Mich.).
