Andreea Mitrache, who was a four-year women's tennis letterwinner (2013-18), was a three-time First Team All-GLIAC selection, including being voted GLIAC Player of the Year in 2015-16.
After playing second and third singles as a freshman in 2013-14, Mitrache played exclusively at second singles as a sophomore and went 11-0 in GLIAC matches plus 3-0 in the GLIAC tournament. She was ranked No. 13 in the final ITA Midwest Regional rankings for singles.
The following year (2015-16), Mitrache posted a 12-0 overall singles record at the first flight, plus went 12-2 primarily at second doubles to earn GLIAC Player of the Year honors. She was also one of six recipients for a Fall 2015 GLIAC Commissioner's Award. Mitrache ended the fall season ranked fifth in the Midwest Region and 33rd nationally in singles.
She missed the spring 2016 campaign, plus the entire 2016-17 academic year with an injury.
Mitrache rebounded to play No. 1 singles in 2017-18. She compiled a 17-7 singles mark and was ranked sixth in the Midwest Region in singles. Mitrache went 17-10 in doubles, primarily at the second flight.
She concluded her career with a 64-18 singles record including 29 wins at the first flight, and 26 victories at No. 2 singles. Mitrache went 59-27 in doubles with 68 matches at the second flight. The 64 singles wins rank sixth in school history when she graduated, while her .780 winning percentage ranked fourth among those with at least 30 singles victories.
Wayne State went 78-21 in the 99 matches she was on the active roster, including the first NCAA Regional title in program history in 2014, along with NCAA Tournament appearances in 2015 and 2018.
Academically, the Spanish and Psychology Honors double major was named to the Athletic Director's Honor Roll (term GPA 3.5+) all 10 semesters, including five 4.0 terms. She was a four-year ITA Scholar-Athlete, a two-time CoSIDA Academic At-Large All-District First Team honoree, plus a four-year GLIAC All-Academic Excellence Team selection. In addition, she received the Deans' Award from the College of Liberal Arts for having the highest cumulative grade-point average of all student-athletes in that college in 2017.
