Andrew R. Clark, now a resident of Yuba City, CA, captained Wayne State's 1941 swimming team which placed third in the NCAA Meet. He won three All-American awards in 1940 and two more in 1941, both letter-winning WSU seasons, as a distance freestyler. He was a national champion in 1938, 1939, and 1940 and selected for the 1940 Olympic Games which were canceled. He was selected for the international AAU trip in 1939 to Argentina and held a national YMCA swim record.
A native of Detroit, he was a national interscholastic freestyle champion at Massanutten (VA) Military Academy. He was the Detroit City Champion and won the first Around Belle Isle Race (6.62 miles) in 1940.
