George "Baby" Duncan was four-year basketball letterman at WSU from 1955-1960, while playing under Joel Mason. He once set a single-game scoring record of 50 points against Western Reserve on Jan. 9, 1960. That record still stands in the WSU record books. The scoring ace also ranks in the top ten in every offensive category at WSU. Duncan, coach at Murray Wright High School, helped the 1955-56 team to an 18-3 mark and a spot in the NCAA Tournament. He was the team co-captain in 1959-60 and was named the team's most valuable player in 1960. The scoring whiz from Highland Park rewrote the Tartar record books during his career. He still stands as the third leading point producer with 1,290 points, the eighth leading scorer with a 15.5 career average and the ninth leading all-time rebounder with 530 boards. At Murray Wright, in 1974 and 1975, he was the unanimous choice for the Detroit Public School League "Coach of the Year." In 1978, his team went 19-1 and won both the PSL Championship as well as the City Championship against the Catholic League. Two of Duncan's former cagers went onto to play in the professional league: John Davis for the Indiana Pacers and James McElroy for the Atlanta Hawks.
