Jack Schlesinger, was a three-year tennis letterman at WSU from 1937-39. He was the #1 seeded singles player all three years and compiled a 46-17 career mark. Schlesinger captained the 1939 team which went 24-0 under head coach Norm Wann. That team went to the NCAA Tournament. Schlesinger was eliminated in the third round in singles and in the second round in doubles competition. Nicknamed "The Slasher" for his consistent ace serves, Schlesinger won the Detroit News Novice Championship in 1936. He entered WSU in 1937 and went on to win the City Open and Public Parks titles in singles. In 1938, he was ranked the sixth netter in the United States. That year he represented Detroit in the National Public Parks Tournament in Los Angeles. He went to the quarterfinals in singles and was runner up in mixed doubles.
