Joaquin Abascal Gallegos, who was a four-year swimming letterwinner (2009-2013), was a two-time individual national champion and a 19-time All-American.
Abascal Gallegos qualified for the NCAA Championships in 23 events during his four seasons and earned First Team All-America honors (top eight) 14 times (six individual and eight relays), along with five Honorable Mention certificates as an individual.
He won national titles in the 200 breast and 400 individual medley as a freshman, and garnered All-America recognition all four years in the 200 breast helping WSU to four top-seven finishes in the team championships.
Abascal Gallegos was a member of the 800 free relay which finished in the top six at the NCAA Championships all four years.
The Warriors won three consecutive GLIAC titles during his career after a runner-up finish in 2010.
He was the 2010 GLIAC Freshman of the Year after claiming six conference titles, including three individual races (200 IM, 400 IM and 200 breast) along with three relays (400 medley, 800 free and 400 free).
Abascal Gallegos won nine GLIAC titles in his career including five individual and four relays at the conference meet. He twice won the 400 IM and 200 breast (both in 2010 and 2012).
In 2012, he broke his own GLIAC meet record as well as the Jenison Poll record in the 400 IM.
Abascal Gallegos is still listed in the WSU all-time record book as a member of the 800 free relay, which broke the school record at the 2012 NCAA Championships.
He was a double major in Business Management and Marketing.
