Mike Horn, the GLIAC Coach of the Year in 2004 and 2007, completed his eighth season as Wayne State University's golf coach in 2008-09, leading the team to its first collective appearance at the NCAA Championship in program history. The Warriors finished in a tie for 13th as a squad, while senior Steve Cuzzort - the 2008 GLIAC Champion and 2009 Super Regional medalist - placed in a tie for fifth individually. Horn has led the team to the NCAA Super Regional each of the last two seasons and five of the last six. He was also named GCAA Division II Great Lakes Region Coach of the Year in 2007. The 2007-08 season saw four golfers earn All-GLIAC recognition and two garner PING/GCAA All-Region honors. In addition, Super Regional medalist Joe Juszczyk became the first WSU golfer to qualify for nationals since Horn in 1986. During the 2003-04 campaign, Horn led the Warriors to a fourth-place finish at the NCAA Super Regional, the school's first team appearance in the NCAA's, and the program's first conference title since 1947. The following season, he guided the squad to its best finish at the Super Regional in school history. In total, Horn's players have collected 16 All-GLIAC awards, 18 GLIAC All-Academic accolades, and four All-Region honors. Cuzzort (2009), Juszczyk (2008) and Ryan Johnson (2007) each earned All-America status, while Johnson is a two-time GLIAC Men's Golf Athlete of the Year as well as the 2004 league champion. In 2003, he led WSU to its first GLIAC title in school history, and first conference title since 1947 (Mid-American Conference). Horn is no stranger to WSU; he attended the University for five years and was a two-time All-GLIAC selection on the golf team. He was named to the Division II District IV All-American squad in 1986 and participated in the NCAA Division II championship tournament. The 1985 GLIAC Champion, Horn was a six-time medalist during his collegiate career. Horn received his bachelor's degree from Wayne State in Marketing/Business Management in 1986. A 2001 inductee into the Wayne State University Athletic Hall of Fame, he served as co-captain as a sophomore, and captain his junior and senior seasons. In 1986, Horn earned GLIAC Scholar-Athlete accolades. A Dearborn Heights native, he worked for Dynamic Cleaning Supplies as a Divisional Manager prior to coming to Wayne State. He also owns The Golf Doctors, which makes custom golf clubs and sells other golf accessories. Horn is still an avid golfer himself and has been club champion at Harbor Golf Course in Belleville, Mich., six times in the past 15 years. In addition, Horn owns and operates Total Cleaning Systems, a wet/dry central vacuum for homes and businesses. Horn has been a member of Publinx, an amateur golf association, for 16 years. He graduated from Divine Child High School and was a member of the golf team for three years. Horn currently resides in Allen Park with his beautiful wife, Kimberlei, and 13-year-old son, Dillon. My family is so supportive. "Thanks to Kimberlei and Dillon for allowing me to work at what I love."
