DETROIT -- The Wayne State University men's tennis team continued its three-match weekend Saturday, competing at the Detroit Titan Invitational held on the campus of Detroit Mercy. The Warriors played against the host Titans and also faced Ferris State in the tournament.
Against, Division I Detroit Mercy, the Warriors were swept by the Titans 5-0. No. 5 and 6 singles did not compete.
WSU earned a victory against Ferris State, winning two of the three doubles matches and three of the six matches for a 5-4 win.
At No. 1 doubles
Trey Keating (Troy, Mich.) and
Luke Ruocco (Lewis, England / Priory) posted a 8-7 (2) win over FSU's Laurent Galarneau and Zachary Grabovic and Mohamend Fazyl Kechai (Paris, France / Martin Luther King) and
Gopinath Menta (Hyderabad, India / Bharatiya Vidya Bhavans) defeated FSU Raleigh Grossbaum and Jordan Helderman 8-1 at No. 3 doubles.
FSU gained a win at No. 2 doubles against
Harvey Reed (Winchester, Hampshire, England / Peter Symonds College) and
Clement Charriere (Marseille, France / Chevreul Biancarde).
WSU earned victories at No. 1 singles when Charriere earned a score of 3-6, 7-6 (1), 10-5 and No. 2 singles when Keating posted a score of 6-2, 7-5.
Sophomore
Ryan Carlson (Armada, Mich.) collected another singles win for the Warriors with a 7-5, 6-1 victory.
The Titans swept the Warriors in three doubles matches and four singles matches played.
The Warriors will return back to the University of Toledo to compete in the final day of the Invitational on Sunday.
