Men's Cross Country Sets School Record With 14 Academic All-GLIAC Honorees

Eight Excellence Team recipients equals most in school history.

DETROIT -- Fourteen (14) members of the 2023 Wayne State University men's cross country squad were recognized with GLIAC (Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference) All-Academic accolades.  The 14 recipients is the most in school history for one year, and marks the fifth consecutive season the Warriors have had at least 10 honorees.  In addition, the eight Excellence Team matches the most in school history.  Over the last 14 years, 107 WSU men's cross country student-athletes have earned GLIAC All-Academic honors.

Criteria states the student-athlete must be an active member on the roster at the end of the season, and not a freshman or a first-year transfer student.

The eight student-athletes receiving All-Academic Excellence Team honors for maintaining a cumulative grade-point average of at least 3.5 were graduate students Ransom Allen (Ithaca, Mich.), Jeremy Cavallo (Davisburg, Mich. / Clarkston) and Donald O'Keefe (Troy, Mich.), along with juniors Carson Nicoletti (Shelby Twp., Mich. / Utica) and Stevan Stajic (Belle River, Ont. / Tecumseh Vista Academy), redshirt sophomore Eli DiCerbo (Clinton Twp., Mich. / Fraser - MMSTC), sophomore Adam Hafeli (Lake Orion, Mich.) and redshirt freshman Ty Nagy (Commerce Twp., Mich. / White Lake Lakeland).

Allen (Mechanical Engineering - 3.989), Cavallo (Computer Science - 3.89) and O'Keefe (MBA - 3.93) were recognized for the fourth straight season, while DiCerbo (Mathematics - 3.98) and Nicoletti (Marketing - 3.67) were honored for the second consecutive year.  Stajic (Biomedical Engineering - 3.51) advanced from the All-Academic squad to the Excellence Team, while Hafeli (Special Education - 3.87) and Nagy (Exercise & Sport Science - 3.77) were first-time eligible.

The six runners receiving All-Academic Team recognition for having a cumulative GPA between 3.0 and 3.49 were redshirt juniors Tyler Buchanan (Fenton, Mich. / Linden) and Jack Wilson (Washington, Mich. / Romeo), junior Corban Hauch (West Olive, Mich. / Zeeland West), sophomores Anthony Vinson (Macomb, Mich. / Utica Eisenhower) and Jack Wallace (Ray, Mich. / Romeo), along with redshirt freshman Kenny Minto (Davison, Mich.).

Buchanan (Exercise and Sport Science - 3.41) was honored for the third straight season, while Hauch (Electrical Engineering) was recognized for the second consecutive year.  Wilson (Health and Physical Education - 3.18), after transferring from Butler, was first-time eligible, as was Vinson (Marketing - 3.29), Wallace (Biomedical Engineering - 3.01) and Minto (Sport Management - 3.40).

Allen finished 13th at the NCAA Championship meet, after being named Division II Men's Athlete of the Year by the USTFCCCA for the Midwest Region.  Buchanan (15th), Minto (44th), Nicoletti (62nd), Wallace (66th), Wilson (80th) and Cavallo (87th) all competed at the GLIAC Championships.
