The Wayne State University Department of Athletics will be hosting its sixth annual "W" week sponsored by Advanced Disposal in support of women's athletics from April 18-24.

Saturday April 18, 2015: W Day Brunch: Celebrating 40 Years of Women's Athletics at Wayne State
The week's activities begin at 10 a.m. on Saturday with a brunch in the Multipurpose Indoor Facility (MIF). Keynote speaker will be Angelique Chengelis, a longtime motorsports writer for The
Detroit News, who became an analyst for ESPN's and ABC's coverage of NASCAR in 2007. Her in-depth racing knowledge has led to numerous appearances as a panelist on ESPN's "Outside the Lines," "SportsCenter" and ESPNEWS over the years. She has also been a regular contributor to sports talk shows in Detroit.
Additionally, the 2015 class of "The Women Who Made A Difference" will be recognized. This year's class consists of Kelsey Chapman (Track & Field, 2013), Susan (Gierschick) Kopins (Swimming and Diving, 1983-87), Tanya Joseph (Tennis, 2010-13), Lauren (Kessler) Couls (Cross Country, 2007-10), Elizabeth (Klemme) Darga (Softball, 1983-84), Kristi (Pieper) Skladanowski (Volleyball, 2003-06), Stephanie Stone (Women's Basketball, 1977-81), and Shante Wilkerson (Fencing, 2010-14).
Tickets for this event are $20, student tickets are $10. To purchase a ticket, please call Kalaya Long at 313-577-0587.Monday evening will be Movie Night at the Emagine Theater in Royal Oak, beginning at 8 p.m.
On Tuesday from 10:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m., a Wellness Warrior Health Fair will take place at the Mort Harris Recreation and Fitness Center.
A Domestic Violence Awareness presentation will be held on Wednesday, April 22 from 6:00 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. in Matthaei Gym 110.
On April 23, WSU student-athletes who recorded at least a 3.5 term grade-point average for the Fall 2014 semester will be recognized at the 15th annual Student-Athlete Academic Recognition Luncheon.
Friday's activities include the Basic Needs Drive sort and distribution day at Cass Park.
