Senior captain running back Desmond Martin (Redford, Mich. / Thurston) was named GLIAC Offensive Player of the Week after leading the football team to a 41-31 win over #13 Carson-Newman. Martin set career-highs for rushing attempts (30), rushing yards (235) and rushing touchdowns (3) with two of his three scores coming in the decisive fourth quarter as WSU turned a 31-27 deficit into a 41-31 victory. Martin's 30 carries were the first time an opposing tailback rushed that many times against CNU since Northern Colorado's Billy Holmes ran 30 times for 136 yards in the 1996 national title game.  His 235 rushing yards were the most allowed by CNU to an opponent since Elon's Bobby Hedrick gained 252 yards on 36 carries on Nov. 17, 1979 (12,720 days, 408 games). In terms of the WSU record book, Martin's 235 rushing yards were the 13th highest total with Joique Bell having seven of the top 12 all-time marks (ranging from 252 to 318). The other five totals were by Toney Davis (326), Randy Holmes (314), A.J. Vaughn (271), Joe Gough (258) and Mike Stankovich (237).
