Redshirt senior Ziad Elsissy (Alexandria, Egypt) competed at the USA Fencing North American Cup on Sunday in the Division I Saber category.  Last season's national saber runner-up finished second out of 113 saberist, falling 15-14 in the title bout. Elsissy began the pool portion of the event as the 18th seed and won his pool by going 5-0 (25-8 / +17 in touches). After his impressive showing during pool competition, he entered the bracket as the sixth ranked saberist out 113 total fencers.  Elsissy earned a first-round bye before dispatching Royce Wang, 15-7 to move on to the round of 32.  He then topped George Bivins 15-13 and advanced to the quarterfinals with a 15-9 result against Xiteng Lin.  Elsissy's run continued as he took care of Marty Williams 15-8 to secure his spot in the semifinals where he won 15-13 over Geoffrey Loss to reach the finals.  He dropped a thriller championship bout to Grant Williams. 15-14.
