The Wayne State University men's fencing team began 2018 by winning one of its four matches at the Detroit Mercy Invitational held Saturday at Calihan Hall. The Warriors defeated Oakland (20-7), but lost to Detroit (9-18), Michigan State (11-16) and Michigan (9-18).

WSU had a combined 24-12 record in the epee. Sophomore Henry Kisthardt (Edmond, Okla. / North) had a 10-2 mark.
