Laura Cazacu (London, England) was selected GLIAC Women's Tennis Player of the Week after going 6-0 (singles and doubles combined) last week.
The Warriors faced Northwood last Tuesday and fell short, 4-3. Â However, Cazacu and partner
Linda Liong (Tanjung Kidurong, Malaysia) were the lone winning doubles flight (6-3) at No. 2. Â In her No. 4 singles match, Cazacu defeated her opponent 6-1, 6-2. Â On Saturday, WSU earned a 6-1 victory against Ferris State. Â Cazacu and Liong won their No. 2 doubles flight, 6-4. Â She moved up to No. 3 singles and claimed a 6-2, 6-1 victory. Â On Sunday, the Warriors edged unbeaten Grand Valley State, 4-3. Â Cazacu and Liong once again recorded a doubles win (7-5) at No. 2. Â Cazacu played a close three-set match at No. 3 singles. Â After winning the first set and losing the second, she pulled out a win in a third-set tiebreaker (6-2, 5-7, 7-6 (7-1)).
In her matches against GLIAC opponents this season, Cazacu is 6-1 in singles matches and 5-2 in doubles.
This weekend, Cazacu and her teammates will play the Davenport Panthers in Detroit on Saturday (10:00 AM), then host Purdue Northwest on Sunday (10:00 AM) to conclude the regular season.
