Wayne State University Athletics

Mort Harris Recreation & Fitness Center

Located in the center of campus, the 78,000-square-foot facility opened in 2000 and underwent a three million dollar renovation in 2007 as a consequence of water damage.  Since that time, a number of significant improvements have been accomplished.  These include a climbing wall, new cardiovascular equipment including Woodway treadmills, and satellite-connected workout machines.  In 2011, the facility was re-painted and in 2012 a merchandise shop was added.  A chipping green, basketball courts, group fitness rooms, and women’s only workout spaces ensures variety and managed options.

Yoga, personal trainers, and adventure programming are just a few items that are cost effective but utilize skilled practitioners.  Locker rooms and showers are also available.  MHRFC hours are Monday-Friday from 5:30 a.m. to 11:00 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday from 10:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.  Intramurals and club sports are coordinated through MHRFC as well as an association with the University’s Wellness Warrior fitness initiative that offers a reduced membership to faculty and staff.  Auxiliary programming is also coordinated at the medical school.
