On a day when every match was a must-win, Grand Valley State was able to take the first doubles contest as the team of Chelsea Johnston and Daryl Ann Trout knocked off Wayne State's
Sharon Gill and
Milena Vuksanovic 8-1.
Kristina Goranskaya teamed with
McCall Monte in the second doubles match. The pair came away 8-5 winners and evened the score at 1-1. Wayne State would make the score 2-1 after the number three doubles team of
Jennifer Bradford and
Debora Correa defeated Jackie Shipman and Rachel Rendina 8-6.
Gill added to WSU's point total and picked up her 10th win of the season in number one singles by defeating Tara Hayes 6-0, 6-0. Goranskaya# won the second singles flight 6-4, 6-0 over Katelyn Schaffer as well.
Grand Valley State (4-0, 3-0 GLIAC) swept the 3-6 singles matches on Friday as the Lakers proved to be too much for Wayne State. Johnston defeated Vuksanovic 6-4, 6-2 in the third slot while Trout bested Monte 6-0, 6-4 in the fourth flight.
GVSU's Sharpman and Rendina were both able redeem their doubles defeat by beating Correa and Bradford in the fifth and six singles matches. Correa fell 6-4, 6-2 to Sharpman and Bradford was downed by Rendina 7-5, 6-1.
Wayne State (5-2, 4-2 GLIAC) will conclude its weekend Saturday at Ferris State. Play starts at 10:00 a.m.
