Volleyball Snaps GLIAC Skid With 3-0 Win At Tiffin

Warriors exceed 2008 win total

TIFFIN, Ohio - The Wayne State University volleyball team (18-7, 7-7 GLIAC) snapped its five-match conference losing streak with a 3-0 victory at Tiffin University (3-25, 0-15 GLIAC) on Saturday afternoon at Gilmor Gymnasium.

With a straight-set win by scores of 25-22, 25-21 and 25-20, the Warriors exceeded their 2008 win total (17) with two matches remaining in the regular season.  Wayne State's win coupled with Northwood's loss to Ashland put WSU in sole possession of third place in the South Division.

Sarha Gosselin (Harrison Twp., Mich./Warren Lincoln) and Candis Jenich (Warren, Mich./Cousino) led the Warrior offense with 12 and 11 kills, respectively.  The senior outside hitters also combined for 15 digs.

Lauren Mallast (Chesterfield, Mich./Anchor Bay), who contributed nine kills and hit .438, also compiled four blocks.  She has 286 total blocks for her career, surpassing Kristin Haewski (1987-88; 282) for ninth all-time at Wayne State.

The Warriors, looking for a berth into the GLIAC Tournament for the second straight season, will host first-place Hillsdale on Friday at the Matthaei before wrapping up the regular season Saturday against Findlay.
