The Wayne State women's tennis team picked up another win Saturday to cap off its opening weekend as the Warriors defeated Tiffin 9-0. The victory improves WSU's record to 2-0 on the year. All 12 sets played today were won by Wayne State.
After losing their match vs. Ashland on Friday, WSU's number one doubles team of Sharon Gill and Milena Vuksanovic rebounded with an 8-0 win over Tiffin's Jessie Stefanov and Taylor Cooper. Kristina Goranskaya and McCall Monte picked up their second win in as many days in the second doubles flight with an 8-4 triumph.
Gill continued her climb towards the top of Wayne State's all-time wins list in singles play with a 6-0, 6-0 win in the number one slot. Playing second singles, Goranskaya produced a 6-1, 6-0 win of her own.
Vuksanovic recovered from her loss on Friday by winning the third singles competition 6-1, 6-3. Debora Correa continued her steady play with a 6-1, 6-0 win at the fourth singles position.
After a grueling three-set battle against Ashland on Friday, Jennifer Bradford was able to win her match against Tiffin's April Fruchtnicht 6-0, 6-0 in the fifth singles bout to round out Wayne State's scoring.
The third doubles and sixth singles matches were default wins for the Warriors. Saturday's loss drops Tiffin's record to 0-3 and 0-1 in GLIAC play.
Wayne State (2-0, 2-0 GLIAC) will be back in action on Wednesday, Sept. 16 at 1:00 p.m. when they play host to Valparaiso at the WSU Tennis Courts.
