WSU Volleyball Comes Back To Defeat Findlay 3-2

FINDLAY, Ohio - The Wayne State volleyball team bounced back from a loss on Friday to defeat Findlay Saturday afternoon 3-2 (25-23, 19-25, 20-25, 27-25, 15-7) in a five-set thriller.

The Warriors (11-2, 3-2 GLIAC) were led by Sarha Gosselin (Harrison Twp., Mich./Warren Lincoln) who had a team-high 16 kills and 14 digs.

Cydney Biessel (Ruby, Mich./Yale) had a match-high 39 assists. As a team, Wayne State had an attack percentage of .122 to go along with 11 team blocks. WSU is now 3-1 this year in matches that go five sets.

After taking the first set 25-23, WSU dropped the next two to Findlay (3-9, 1-4 GLIAC). The Warriors managed to force a fifth set thanks to a 27-25 win in the fourth set where Wayne State boasted a hitting percentage of .226. After four close sets, WSU was able to pull away in the fifth 15-7.

Kate Sak (Warren, Mich./Cousino) and Candis Jenich (Warren, Mich./Cousino) had eight and seven kills respectively for Wayne State. Sak also had a match-high seven block assists.

Findlay was led by Erin Thomasson, who had 17 kills.

WSU will return home next Friday (Sept. 25) for the first time in nearly a month to host Ashland at 7:00 p.m.
