DETROIT - The Wayne State volleyball team (13-2, 5-2 GLIAC) remained undefeated at home this season following Saturday's 3-0 victory over Tiffin (2-14, 0-7 GLIAC) at the Matthaei.

In a match that took just 61 minutes to complete, the Warriors swept the Dragons by scores of 25-16, 25-9 and 25-19 for their seventh shutout win of 2009.

Lauren Mallast (Chesterfield, Mich./Anchor Bay) hit .474 and led the Warriors with 11 kills and four blocks. Kate Sak (Warren, Mich./Cousino) contributed nine kills, a .368 hitting percentage, two blocks and two service aces.

With a 16-13 lead in the first set, Wayne State went on a six-point run and won nine of the final 12 points overall to take the set, 25-16. Mallast collected seven of her 11 digs in the opening set.

The Warriors jumped out to a 6-0 advantage and led by as many as 17 points in the second set. Tiffin made a late four-point run but WSU put away the set with a 25-9 result.

Wayne State trailed or was tied with Tiffin for much of the third until, at 15-15, the momentum shifted in favor of the Warriors who went on a 10-4 run to cap off the shutout victory. Meg Leone (Troy, Mich.) provided a spark off the bench with four kills.

Three players - Sarha Gosselin (Harrison Twp., Mich./Warren Lincoln), Jessica Condeni (Farmington Hills, Mich./Harrison), and Maureen MacDonald (Whte Lake, Mich./Marian) - tied for team-high honors with 10 digs. Cydney Biessel (Ruby, Mich./Yale) finished with 30 assists and a pair of blocks.

Wayne State will hit the road next weekend, Oct. 2-3, to battle Lake Superior State and Saginaw Valley State.
