FINDLAY, Ohio - The Wayne State University volleyball team (8-5, 6-3 GLIAC) improved to 5-1 in its last six matches following Friday night's
3-1 victory at the University of Findlay (7-7, 3-5 GLIAC).
After splitting the first two sets (25-23, 22-25), Wayne State took the next two (25-15, 25-23) to defeat Findlay for the fifth straight time.
Madie Kent (Grosse Pointe Woods, Mich./Grosse Pointe North) hit. 345 with 12 kills and eight digs.
Katarzyna Sak (Warren, Mich./Cousino) led WSU with 13 kills and four service aces.
Nicole Arends (Ravenna, Mich.) also played well up front, hitting a team-best .368 with nine kills.
The first set was within three points for its entirety. Down 23-21, the Warriors took the next four points to win the set.
Wayne State dropped the second set, 25-22, but never trailed in the third on its way to a 25-15 triumph.
The Warriors led by as many as five points early in the fourth, but the Oilers continued to battle and eventually tied the score at 20-20 and again at 22-22 before WSU nabbed three of the final four points.
Cydney Biessel (Ruby, Mich./Yale) collected 42 assists, seven digs and three kills.
Lindsey Graciak (Westland, Mich./Livonia Churchill) finished with 15 digs.
Wayne State will host Hillsdale at 4:00 tomorrow as part of Homecoming. The Chargers and Warriors are the top two teams in the GLIAC South Division.
