DETROIT - The Wayne State University volleyball team (9-7) will travel to Aurora, Ill., this weekend to participate in the third annual GLIAC/GLVC Crossover, a joint production of the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference and the Great Lakes Valley Conference.
Wayne State will face three in-region opponents at the tournament, including two on Friday. The Warriors will open the Crossover with a tough challenge at 12:30 p.m. on Friday against Lewis University, ranked 11th in Division II. The Flyers are 15-2 overall this season.
WSU will meet Southern Indiana (11-7) on Friday at 6:30 p.m., and Missouri S&T (10-8) on Saturday at 2:00 p.m. The Screaming Eagles and Miners are in seventh and eighth place, respectively, in the GLVC.
In the first two years of this event, Wayne State lost just one of its six matches combined. The Warriors were the only GLIAC team to win all three of its matches last year in Lansing.
Wayne State and Lewis met in the inaugural Crossover in 2008, with WSU coming away with a five-set victory. The Warriors shut out Southern Indiana at the TownePlace Suites Classic in Findlay, Ohio, in their last meeting on Sept. 4, 2009.
