The Wayne State University volleyball team (9-8) played its first match at the GLVC/GLIAC Crossover Volleyball Tournament in Aurora, Illinois, falling
3-0 to #11 Lewis University.
Lewis (16-2) swept the match by scores of 25-16, 25-17, and 25-23.
Kristen Bulkiewicz (LaSalle, Ont./Sandwich) totaled 10 kills and two digs, while
Katarzyna Sak (Warren, Mich./Cousino) added nine kills and a trio of blocks.
Lindsey Graciak (Westland, Mich./Livonia Churchill) collected 18 digs, and
Maureen MacDonald (White Lake, Mich./Lakeland) and
Cydney Biessel (Ruby, Mich./Yale) added 12 and 11, respectively.
The Warriors fell behind 5-0 in the opening set and never recovered. Tied at 14 in the second, the Flyers outscored WSU 11-3 the rest of the way.
Both squads traded blows in the third set with no team ever leading by more than three points; however, with the score tied at 23, Lewis tallied the final two points, ending the match.
