For the second straight match at the GLVC/GLIAC Crossover Volleyball Tournament, the Wayne State University volleyball team (9-9) came away empty handed, losing
3-1 to Southern Indiana University (12-8).
The Screaming Eagles won the match by scores of 25-11, 25-22, 20-25, and 25-21.
Katarzyna Sak (Warren, Mich./Cousino) totaled 19 kills and a pair of blocks, while
Maureen MacDonald (White Lake, Mich./Lakeland) added 11 kills and 12 digs.
Lindsey Graciak (Westland, Mich./Livonia Churchill) recorded 14 digs and
Katy Westenberg had 11 digs and five blocks.
With the scored tied at 3-3 in the first set, Southern Indiana outscored WSU 22-8 the rest of the way.
The woes continued as the Warriors never led in the second, but were able to turn it around midway through the third set. Down 13-9, the team tallied five straight points to take a 14-13 lead, which they never lost.
With momentum on their side, the Warriors were ahead for majority of the fourth, even taking a 21-17 lead late in the set. Unfortunately, WSU lost the final eight points, ending the match.
Wayne State continues play tomorrow, taking on Missouri S&T (10-10) at 2:00 p.m.
