Sault Ste Marie, Mich. -- The Wayne State women's tennis team squeaked out a
5-4 win over host Lake Superior State Saturday afternoon.
Sharon Gill and
Kristina Goranskaya were the difference makers, earning three of the five team points, helping the Warriors to their second straight victory. Gill and Goranskaya defeated Katie Watchorn and Adrienne DeVito 8-5 in No. 1 doubles. The tandem has now won 19 of their last 20 doubles matches together.
Both were equally impressive in singles, winning in straight sets. Gill bested DeVito 6-2, 6-4, while Goranskaya won 6-2, 6-3 over Tess Marton.

Milena Vuksanovic and
McCall Monte blanked Helen Sheridan and Erin Wiethoff 8-0 in No. 2 doubles. Monte would go on to win her No. 4 singles match 6-3, 6-3 over Sheridan, while Vuksanovic was forced to retire in her match with Watchorn.
Caroline Gosman and
Jessica Kruczek fell in No. 3 doubles to Marton and Kaitlynn Hutchnson 8-3. In singles, Gosman was outdone by Wiethoff 6-3, 6-4. Kruczek battled, but eventually came out on the wrong end to Hutchnson 1-6, 6-4, 10-4.
Wayne State (5-2, 5-2 GLIAC) will pick up play tomorrow morning at Michigan Tech. Lake Superior State moved to 4-5 overall and 2-5 in the GLIAC.
